- By using his full name, Barack Hussein Obama, lemmings will feel uncomfortable. It has the name 'Hussein' in it. He must be a bad guy.
- Obama was born to a black MUSLIM father and a white ATHEIST mother. He's black? No shit? Jesus, I've *GOT* to start drinking more coffee in the morning so I don't miss these things. But clearly, we've got it now that he's part Muslim and part Atheist. I suppose next we'll find out that he had a distant relative named Yefim, who was a Jew -- it would complete the trifecta.

There are several of these stories out there. All scary and offputting.
I would comment on your last paragraph. If your states primaries are closed, as they are in my state, consider registering for the party whose primary you would like to vote in. There is no cost or pain in registering. My wife is republican and I was independant. I'm now a democrat. Our family now has a say in both primaries. This also screws up gerrymandering (sp). That is the process where a party carves up your community based on voter registration to better serve their purposes. It is a bad process and anything you can do to screw with it is good.
I agree with almost everything you've said. Evaluate the man on his own behavior and character. To do otherwise is simple ignorance.
However... I'm not sure why the "War for Oil" cry is chanted time and time again. It's really no better than everything else that people repeat without consideration (that's not to say you're not carefully considering your position on this, just that it just sounds cliché)
Be upset that you were lied to. Be upset that you think the gov't doesn't believe were smart enough (or gullible enough) to go along with whatever their true reason for war is/was. There is certainly plenty to get worked up about.
But really... I'm not sure how you can be upset about a war for oil. Or entire economy is utterly dependent on it. Without it, we can't move, we can't distribute food, etc. Ensuring a continuous, uninterrupted supply of it is a matter of national security and the survival of our people.
So... be pissed that oil is still relatively cheap and we use it wastefully. Be pissed that we don't invest enough in researching truly viable alternatives. But, unless you've personally invented an alternative fuel that we can run on tomorrow, I have to cry foul when I hear "war for oil" as something that's unjustified.
If you go to snopes via the handily included link, it actually verifies that all of that nonsense is actually false.

Snopes is somewhat vague on the message they're trying to get across. It seems that this issue is full of half-truths, no one really seems to care about.
I worry about all the people getting the message and forwarding the message without thinking, wondering, questioning. They vote. They make decisions that affect the world in which we live.
I guess there is nothing wrong with a war for oil if we just admit we're pigs and have no truck with killing people, acting all imperialist, and flaunting international law to stay that way. Since I haven't invented a cure for cancer I guess I'm OK with that too.
